President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte got on the stage and sang a song after President Trump requested it.
Duterte and Pilita Corrales sang “Ikaw” at the gala dinner of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit. “Ladies and gentlemen, I sang an invited duet with Ms. Pilita Corrales upon the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the United States,” the Philippine president said.
Karen Jimeno tweeted a video of the performance.

While the U.S. and Philippines had a complicated relationship during Obama’s presidency, the relations have improved since President Trump took office this year.
The Filipino leader fought with Obama about questions of violation of human rights during Duterte’s war on drugs, which killed many Filipinos. Duterte attacked Obama by calling him “son of a whore” and told him to “go to hell.”
Trump administration has avoided attacking Duterte’s drug war, even admired his efforts. The U.S. has been also helping the Philippines to counter radical Islamic extremism, and Duterte thanked America for the support in this campaign.
Trump trip to the Philippines is the last stop of his tour of Asia, previously he visited South Korea, China, Vietnam, and Japan.
