NF HELL: GQ Magazine Names Colin Kaepernick ‘Citizen of the Year’

GQ Magazine announced Monday that former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick would be receiving its ‘Citizen of the Year’ award, posting the athlete on its cover and praising the protesting player for “taking a knee” to fight “police brutality,” reports Fox News.

The article, titled “Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced” applauds the kneeling quarterback, sayings, “He’s been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL.”

“He’s been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL—all because he took a knee to protest police brutality. But Colin Kaepernick’s determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson—athletes who risked everything to make a difference,” writes the author.

The ex-San Francisco 49er has been out of a job since he became a free agent in 2016, filing a grievance against the National Football League that accuses owners of “colluding” against hiring him because of his political beliefs.

Kaepernick made national headlines when he chose to “take a knee” during the performance of the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ for the first time in 2016, angering patriotic fans and team owners throughout the country.
